GOD,
Still studying the book of Corinthians, ( Gosh!Only God knows when i will finish studying this book *rolls eyes*) I discovered an astounding comparison which the apostle Paul used in Chapter 5 and I would be discussing it here.
1 Corinthians 5 : 7-8
"Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth"
The leaven was used in baking in the Hebraic days. This leaven was kept aside from part of the an old bread and it was preserved through fermentation. To ferment means means to go sour or change from its original state. The shows that the leaven was no longer pure, hence it was used to depict corruption. This was why the Israelites ate the unleavened bread at the passover feast, this unleavened bread contained no leaven. This was to show their setting apart from corruption of the world unto God . Like wise ,Paul said that we should do away with the old leaven which depicts all sorts of corruption andf evil things such as malice, envy, anger ,bitterness, strife etc and we should put on the attitude and characters that are pleasing to Christ.
One thing the old leaven does to fresh flour is that it makes it swell thereby infusing its fermentation in it. The old leaven can also be interpreted as sin. Therefore "purging out the old leaven" also means removing the sins that makes us unacceptable to God. I believe that this message is not only for the Corinth church but its also timely for today's believers.
The Question for you and I is which leaven do we need to purge out?

ReplyDeleteWell,....I want to live the life that Jesus lived,..so anything that's not of Him, is not acceptable for me. I daily grow in grace to live that life. I have and live on the New leavened bread of Life. Every time I take part in the communion of Jesus, through the bread and cup, i'm automatically purged out from all that stands in the way of the life that God has called me. That's why like Jesus instructed, I never miss the communion, because there are things that only the spiritual and physical exercise of the communion can do. Most times, we are not even aware of what we need to purge out consciously.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great reminder for me dear. I love this post....and Happy New Year to you my darling Tosin. Hope to see more of you this year. where have you been anyway?
